Strategic Planning Process

An organisation's strategy outlines its mission and vision and sets appropriate high level objectives and goals it wishes to achieve over the long term. The strategy should also identify relevant indicators and targets against which performance can be clearly measured and ensure that the strategy plan is being achieved effectively. The success of the organisation depends on having a good strategic planning process in place. This process should ensure that:

Key steps of the process include:

1. Setting its mission statement;

2. Setting its high level goals;

3. Analysing the environment in which it operates, including the organisation’s strengths and weaknesses, the opportunities and threats that exist;

4. Setting the objectives, tasks and targets for the period covered which serve each strategic aim;

5. Identifying the resources required to achieve those objectives;

6. Identifying indicators against which performance will be measured;

7. Identifying its economic and social objectives.
