The Board Secretaries' Network, in assocation with the Chartered Governance Institute (Ireland), will convene for its second virtual round table session of 2021, and will combine a focus and discussion on influencing skills in the context of the Secretary's role, and on a number of topical issues raised by Network members.
The discussion on influencing skills will be led by Aideen O'Reilly, a highly experienced Executive Coach, and will be framed around:
Objectives: what does the Secretary want to achieve?
People: who does the Secretary need to influence?
Style: finding the right influencing style
The session will also include some time and discussion on topical issues raised by members, which fall under the following areas:
Board meetings
Conflicts of Interest/Loyalty
Board vs Executive responsibilities
Induction and Training for new members
Provisions in the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies (2016)
Getting the most from effectiveness reviews

Aideen O'Reilly
Aideen is an executive and team coach who works with senior professionals and managers in the public and private sector where she is a member of several coaching panels.
Her work integrates client focus with systemic understanding and she supports her clients with both the practical, day to day issues and challenges of their role and longer term thinking and planning.
She has a particular interest in helping people to develop their EQ to support their professional development and growth and the effectiveness of their teams.
Aideen is an accredited member of the Association for Coaching, an accredited mediator and holds an IoD diploma in company direction.
