Organisational Culture Reviews - Approaches and Lessons
01 December 2022

As corporate governance is concerned with the systems, processes and attitudes relating to the direction and control of entities, it means that senior teams and boards must be concerned not only with the soundness and effectiveness of the policies, procedures and structures in place, but also with the attitudes, behaviours and tone of management and staff and those who occupy key governing and leadership positions in the organisation. The UK Corporate Governance Code (2018) calls out a role for the Board in ensuring that organisational culture is aligned with the strategy of the organisation and that the Board should monitor and assess culture. Likewise, the annex to the state body code (published in September 2020) speaks to the importance of culture; that compliance with rules ‘is not enough’ to deliver good governance.
This Forum event provides an important opportunity to explore this area in practical terms, considering culture review from the point of the ‘how to’. With the help of three highly experienced practitioners and leaders, it will consider
Key components of a culture review
Formal vs Informal culture review processes
Examples of culture indicators or ‘proxies’
Diversity and inclusion and its role in corporate culture
Covid-19, blended working and its impact on corporate culture
The importance of culture in attracting and retaining staff
The roles of the Board, Audit & Risk Committee and Senior Team
